Terms of use
Last updated: 29 September 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Owee. We've kept them short and plain. Please read them, along with our privacy policy.
The short version
- Owee keeps track of who owes whom. It never holds or moves money.
- The AI can make mistakes. Check a split before you rely on it.
- Owee is free to use, with a monthly allowance of AI splits. Owee Pro removes that limit and is billed by Apple or Google.
- Be decent. Don't misuse Owee or other people's data.
1. The agreement
Owee is operated by Satwik Agarwal, an individual based in India ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using Owee, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Owee.
2. Who can use Owee
You must be at least 13 years old to use Owee.
If you're under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you. They're responsible for your use of Owee, including any Owee Pro purchase.
3. Your account
- You sign in with your phone number and a one-time code we send by SMS. Use a number that is yours.
- Keep your phone and your codes secure. Anyone who can use your phone may be able to use your account.
- You're responsible for what happens in your account. Tell us at support@getowee.com if you think someone else is using it.
- Keep your details accurate, especially your name and any payment methods you add.
4. What Owee is, and isn't
Owee records shared expenses and works out who owes whom in a group.
- No money moves through Owee. When you tap to pay someone, Owee opens your own payment app (such as a UPI app, Cash App, PayPal or Venmo) with their details filled in. You finish the payment there.
- Owee is not a bank, a wallet, or a payment service. We don't hold money, process payments, or guarantee that anyone pays.
- When you mark a debt as paid, Owee records what you told it. It can't check that the money arrived.
- Payments you make in other apps are between you, the other person, and that app. Their terms apply.
- Owee is not financial, tax or legal advice.
5. The AI (Owee)
Owee uses an AI model to turn your words, voice and receipts into splits. AI can misread a receipt, get a name wrong, or make a maths mistake.
- Always check a split before you confirm it. Once you confirm, you are responsible for it.
- Only send the AI what you're happy for it to process. What we send, and to whom, is in our privacy policy.
6. Free plan and Owee Pro
Free
Groups, adding expenses by hand, balances, settling up and history are free, with no limit. The free plan includes 10 Owee splits a month. An Owee split is the first message on a new bill: text, voice or a receipt. Fixing that same bill doesn't use another one. Typing just an amount, like "450", doesn't use the AI or a split. The allowance resets on the 1st of each month (UTC time). There is also a daily fair-use limit on AI use. You won't hit it with normal use.
We may change the free allowance in the future. If we do, the app will show the new number.
Owee Pro
- Owee Pro removes the monthly split limit. It still has a daily fair-use limit to stop abuse. If you reach it, Owee pauses until the next day (UTC time).
- Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly. There is no free trial.
- Payment is taken by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), not by us. The price is shown in the store in your local currency before you buy.
- Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your store account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- To manage or cancel, go to your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Deleting the app, or your Owee account, does not cancel your subscription.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. We can't issue refunds for store purchases ourselves.
- If you buy Pro on a new phone or reinstall, use Settings > Restore purchases.
If you downloaded Owee from the Apple App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. If anything in these terms conflicts with it, that agreement wins for your use of the app on Apple devices.
7. Acceptable use
Please don't:
- Use Owee for anything illegal, or to record or hide illegal payments.
- Harass, threaten, or abuse anyone, including through names, bill titles, receipts or reminders.
- Pretend to be someone else, or add people's phone numbers without a good reason.
- Upload content you don't have the right to share, or content that is harmful or explicit.
- Scrape Owee, use bots, or try to collect other people's data. This includes checking phone numbers in bulk.
- Attack, overload, reverse-engineer, or get around the limits or security of Owee.
- Resell Owee or use it to build a competing service.
8. Your content
"Your content" means what you add to Owee: names, bills, amounts, messages, receipts and photos.
- You own your content.
- You give us permission to store, process, copy and show it, and to send it to our service providers, only as needed to run Owee for you and your groups. This permission ends when your content is deleted, except for what stays in shared groups (see our privacy policy).
- Content you add to a group can be seen by the people in that group.
- Only add other people's details, like their name and phone number, if you're allowed to.
9. Our app and brand
Owee, its app, design, name and logo belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app for its intended purpose, under these terms.
10. Ending your use
- You can stop using Owee, and delete your account, at any time: Settings > Delete account. See Delete your account.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, harms other people, or puts Owee at risk. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix things.
- If we ever shut Owee down, we'll give reasonable notice so you can settle up.
11. Disclaimers
We work hard to make Owee accurate and reliable. But Owee is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we don't promise that it will always work, be error-free, or that balances and AI results will be correct. You're responsible for checking amounts before you pay or ask to be paid.
12. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows:
- We aren't responsible for indirect losses, such as lost profits, lost data, or disputes between friends.
- We aren't responsible for payments made or missed in other apps, or for mistakes in splits you confirmed.
- Our total responsibility to you for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid for Owee Pro in the 12 months before the claim, or ₹1,000.
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be excluded.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of India. Before going to court, please email us. Most problems can be sorted out quickly.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Owee changes. We'll change the date at the top. If a change is important, we'll let you know before it takes effect. If you keep using Owee after that, you accept the new terms.
